Idea & concept

A project with a life of its own

The Stade city portal is not a static directory. It is a portal that learns: adding a single new entry sets off an automatic enrichment with the whole surrounding area — with the help of generative artificial intelligence.

Why this portal exists

Many people live, work or spend time in Stade and the surrounding area — locals, newcomers and visitors alike. Reliable everyday information about the city — schools, doctors, public offices, transport, churches — is usually scattered across many sources. This portal grew out of a simple observation: there was no single place where all of it stood together — brief, current and with the contact details right beside it.

We gather publicly available contact details of institutions and write our own editorial descriptions to go with them. The content is available in six languages — German, Polish, English, French, Ukrainian and Turkish, so that anyone can work out in a few minutes where to go, what to bring and how to get the matter dealt with.

The most important function

How the AI-assisted database grows

The portal is designed to grow continuously and automatically. Every new entry — a school, a practice, a café, an office, a shop — starts an internal process that generates a whole body of information about its surroundings.

Step by step — what happens after an entry is created

  1. Reading the context — the system picks up the address, district and category of the new entry.
  2. Mapping the surroundings — public data about nearby places is researched (stops, schools, offices, shops).
  3. A generated description — a language model writes a fresh, original text describing the entry and its neighbourhood.
  4. Automatic categories & tags — the system suggests related entries, errands to sort out and neighbouring places.
  5. Editorial check — before publication a human checks the facts and the contact details and fills any gaps.
  6. Publication — the entry goes online and related places get automatic links.

The result: no new place stands alone in the database — it immediately gets a neighbourhood context: links to the nearest bus stop, a list of nearby doctors, information about the local school, suggestions for somewhere to eat next door. The database does not just grow in a line, it thickens — into a network of connected information rather than a mere catalogue.

Where the idea comes from

Classic information portals go out of date fast. A restaurant opens today, a doctor moves next month, a bus timetable changes next quarter. A static catalogue would need an army of editors. Generative AI lets the editor concentrate on what matters — checking, and the quality of the facts — while the model takes care of style, language and cross-references.

Law & ethics

Using the content — legal compliance

Contact details of institutions

Addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and websites of public institutions, offices, schools, nurseries, doctors, restaurants and other bodies are publicly available contact details within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest — informing the local public). Using them for information purposes is lawful and is standard practice for maps, directories and city portals across Europe.

Editorial descriptions

Every description on this site is our own text, written by the editor (sometimes with the help of generative AI, but always under human supervision). We do not copy articles or descriptions from other portals, from Wikipedia, from the institutions’ own pages or from tourism sites. Every editorial passage is original.

We are waiting for permissions from partner portals

At present the editor is waiting for written permission from individual specialist portals to use their content (longer specialist articles, images from particular sources). Until such permission arrives, we publish only our own descriptions and link to the original sources — without reprinting their content.

Logos and trade marks

All proper names, logos and trade marks of the institutions mentioned in the portal belong to their owners. They appear here purely for information and identification.

Currency and liability

Although we do our best to keep the data current, the editor accepts no liability for possible errors or changes — opening hours, phone numbers and addresses can change. Before setting out, it is always worth making a call or checking the institution’s official page.

Report a correction & suggest a place

If you notice out-of-date information, find a mistake in a description or want your own place in the database, please use the form. Every report is checked against public sources and — where necessary — the enrichment process described above is started.

Who the portal is for

  • For everyone who has just moved to Stade and wants to find their feet quickly
  • For families looking for a school, a nursery or a paediatrician
  • For people looking for work with the local employers (Dow, Airbus, AOS)
  • For visitors planning a weekend in the Hanseatic city of Stade
  • For Hamburgers who want to get to know the town next door
  • For older people who need access to social support

What comes next

The portal is under active development. Over the coming months we plan to add:

  • An extension of the database to neighbouring communities (Buxtehude, Drochtersen, Jork, Horneburg)
  • An events section with a live calendar
  • A full-text search
  • An interactive map of every entry
  • A mobile version that can be installed on the home screen (PWA)
  • The city blog — history, places and background from Stade, with new pieces appearing regularly (online since September 2026)
