The city’s main stage. More than a hundred events a year: theatre, classical and popular concerts, cabaret and a children’s programme. The building also has conference rooms and a large car park for over 300 cars.
A modern town library with a large collection, including books in other languages. Access to the “Onleihe” e-book platform, a children’s section with a reading corner, regular readings and language activities. Membership is cheap, and free for children and young people up to 18.
An art gallery in a historic half-timbered house of 1667, part of the “Museen Stade”. A permanent collection of north German painting and changing special exhibitions. Open late on Wednesday evenings — ideal for a midweek evening out.
A multiplex cinema by the town harbour showing current Hollywood and German releases. Evening screenings for adults and children’s films in the morning. Tickets can be booked online.
The district youth music school, with a wide programme — from early musical education for babies and parents through individual lessons on every instrument to orchestras and chamber music. Pupils’ concerts are held regularly at venues across the city.
A long-established private music school. Lessons in piano, guitar, wind instruments, drums and singing. Flexible times, including for people working shifts.
The adult education centre — learning for everyone. Language courses (including German as a foreign language at every level from A1 to C2, and “Leben in Deutschland”), computing, yoga, cooking, photography, professional development and preparation for the citizenship test.
