Stade’s school system has around twelve primary schools, two grammar schools leading to the Abitur, the integrated comprehensive school IGS, one Realschule, the Jobelmann vocational colleges and several special schools. All of them are here — with addresses, phone numbers and profiles.
A small primary school in the middle of the old town — the way to school runs through Stade’s lanes and the park at the Burggraben is right next door. Swimming lessons, the “holiday reading” project and music in cooperation with the music school are all part of the routine.

A Realschule leading to the intermediate leaving certificate after year 10. It offers extended English plus computing and economics — a route that leads either on to a grammar school and the Abitur or into vocational training.
A comprehensive school that brings the Haupt-, Real- and grammar-school paths under one roof. A child does not have to commit at the start — marking is differentiated by level, so pupils can move between paths and build up step by step until the end of year 10. The IGS also runs its own sixth form.
The city’s most venerable grammar school, with roots in the 17th century — the present building dates from 1929. The curriculum gives real weight to the classical languages (Latin and Greek) alongside English, French and Spanish; on the science side there is advanced physics, chemistry and computing. The Athenaeum sends pupils to competitions and has its own school orchestra and choir.
A grammar school named after the baroque organist of St. Cosmae, Vincent Lübeck. Its musical profile goes hand in hand with a strong science and languages programme. Bilingual classes in English and long-standing partner schools in Scandinavia and Poland are part of its character.

Focused on business, administration and health. It trains future commercial staff, office workers, medical assistants and nurses, and also offers the route to the Fachhochschulreife.
A vocational college focused on home economics, agriculture, care, floristry and farm tourism. Its strongest courses train medical assistants, carers for the elderly and florists — trades in high demand in the Altes Land.
An independent school working to Maria Montessori’s method — children choose their own pace with the materials and the teacher acts as a guide. Mixed-age classes encourage independence and natural cooperation.
